Although born in Lučenec, Slovakia, Vladimír Chmelo atended the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno and master classes with D. Ferro and P. De Napoli in Italy. After completing his vocal studies, during his regular engagement at Brno´National Theater he manager also to participate succesfully in international singing competitions (laureate at the international competition of F.Tagliavinni in Graz - Austria), to perform on other Czech and foreing opera and concert stages, and to collaborate with radio, television, and recording studios (P.Haas - Sharlatan, title role for DECCA). And so his Escamillo, Count Luna, Germont the fater, Rodrigo, Jago, Simone Boccanegra, Macbeth, Hamlet, Rigoletto, Renato, Barnaba, and other baritone roles in worldwide opera literature are known to audience not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Izrael, Japan, Germany, Spain and Norway. He has been awarded the Thalia prize 1998 for the role of Fanuel in Boito´s Nerone, which he performs in the Prague State Opera. He is often guest on stages in State Opera in Hamburg (Belcore, Luna, Renato), Bonn(Boccanegra), Bielefeld (Renato,Posa), Essen (Luna), Innsbruck (Macbeth, Escamillo), Salzburg (Germont-Festspielhaus), Graz (Germont-prem.19th of November 2005). On March 2006 he sang part of Sharpless in theatre Carlo Felice in Genova, on August he sang Luna in Eutin ´s opera festival. The last success was his interpretation of the role of The little prisoner from Janacek´s opera From the House of the Dead (conductor Pierre Boulez). This production was prepared for Wiener Festwochen. In June 2007 Vladimír Chmelo was performed in this production again in Amsterdam and in summer 2007 in Aix -en -Provence.
